Hachiko closes pre-seed to develop platform that accelerates adoption of renewables

Sydney-based start-up Hachiko is excited to share the successful closing of a pre-seed funding round led by Twynam Ventures.

Hachiko is developing a battery optimisation and portfolio management platform for the Unscheduled sector (combination of the Commercial & Industrial and Non-Scheduled sectors) in Australia and overseas. The platform provides high-class multi-market optimisation across all parts of the value stack, focusing on delivering value primarily for portfolio owners, traders, and portfolio developers. It is built to handle the complex technical and commercial realities of managing distributed batteries at scale. This increases the operational profitability of a portfolio of projects by as much as 50%, making solar and BESS more compelling and ultimately accelerating their adoption.

Hachiko was founded in 2024 by Rakhesh Martyn, an established energy market and project development expert. He aims to deliver the software solution he wished had existed to remove barriers he has identified through a decade in distributed energy.

With a uniquely-assembled team of domain experts, Hachiko is thrilled to be bringing sophisticated investors, developers, and traders a truly purpose-built and forward-looking portfolio management product that caters to their unique challenges in an ever-evolving market. In just a few months, the team has made great strides on its journey to unlock scale in Australian battery project development, securing major interest from multiple local Tier 1 developers and traders.

“Distributed storage is seen by many to represent the fastest pathway to deploying batteries at scale both in Australia and overseas. In the time it took you from commencing development to announcing financial close on a 200MW battery (still ~18 months from energisation), you could have developed, built, and energised 40 x 5MW batteries. Savvy project investors and developers are wise to this and capital is flowing, but their software needs are not met by the products in the market today. We are excited to help them supercharge their growth with our platform.

We are delighted and humbled that Twynam have chosen to back us. They have been a phenomenally supportive investor since our very first meeting, and the investment team has taken great care of us. We look forward to a long and productive partnership with them.”

Jonathan Green, Investment Director at Twynam -

“By enabling the more effective rollout of energy storage solutions at scale, Hachiko has the potential to facilitate the displacement of up to 157 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually by 2050 - a testament to the platform's scalability and environmental impact.

At Twynam, we are thrilled to support Hachiko as they redefine the role of BESS in the unscheduled sector, leading to accelerated deployment of renewables.”

About Twynam: Twynam invests in bold decarbonisation ventures globally - we've been at it since the ‘90s (before it got this hot). We back early-stage founders building technologies faster than our climate can change. We’re laser-focused on identifying technologies that can move the needle on climate change. Through the Earth Fund, we back early-stage founders who are solving the truly difficult decarbonisation problems with unit economics that match or beat incumbents. That means bold ideas, remarkable teams, and businesses that make sense.
